1.1 Introduction

Hello everyone, I am Reggie Dawson. Welcome to the WordPress Security Tips Course for Tuts+. From simple blogs to marketplaces where vendors can offer their products, WordPress is a popular platform for hosting a variety of sites. The abundance of plugins and themes make using WordPress a viable option, even if you are a seasoned web developer. Even though I can build a web app from scratch, I will often turn to WordPress for some of my projects. Now the popularity of WordPress also works against it. Individuals will try to find vulnerabilities in your WordPress installation to take over your site for their own purposes. Also, if you have a site that hosts sensitive user information, you also open yourself up to liabilities if your site is hacked. One of the things that many users of WordPress overlook is the security of their site. Fortunately, there are a number of steps we can take to secure our site, even if it has already been set up. Also, there are a load of security plugins that we can use to protect us. In this course, we will look at the ways we can protect our WordPress site. We will learn what we can do to make it more difficult for hackers to gain access. We will also take a look at many of the plugins we can use to help us. These can be specialized plugins such as in the case of plugins that monitor user activity for example. We will also take a look at a few of the full features of security plugins that we can use to secure a variety of areas in our WordPress site. Now this doesn't guarantee that some will not be able to gain an authorized access to your site. But these tips will at the minimum make it harder for hackers to compromise your WordPress installation.
