Before you even start building your Android app, there are a lot of questions to answer. Who is it for? What will the revenue model be? Do other apps exist that already solve this problem? In this ten-minute Coffee Break Course, Paul Trebilcox-Ruiz will walk you through some of the decisions that need to be made before starting an app project. After that, you'll go on to learn about some of the other decisions and tasks that come up during the lifecycle of every app project: design, coding, testing, publishing, and revision.

1. Steps to Creating an Android App

1.1 Introduction

[SOUND] Hey everyone, in this lesson, I will go over some of the things that you need to consider before you actually start building out your applications. So the first thing that you need to do is come up with an actual idea. Once you have an idea, you need to consider who actually needs to use this application. Another thing that you're gonna think about is, does this really need to be an application? Maybe your user would be better served if you are giving them a mobile webpage instead of an app that they have to install in their phone for whichever platform they're gonna use. So once you have your idea and you know that you're gonna go ahead and move forward with it, you need to do your due diligence. So generally, what you wanna do is check to see has this app been done before, and if it has, can the other versions that are out there be improved? That way, your users will get something different from their experience with your app than they would from using a competitor's application. You need to plan out if you're gonna have a revenue model, so do you plan to make money off this application at all? And if so, is it gonna be through ads? In-app purchases? By collecting data that you can then use for something else? Or are you gonna be paid by an end client? Or some kind of mixture in between? In the next lesson, I will discuss designing your UX so that you know what your app is gonna look like, now that you have an idea of what the purpose of it is. Right, so I will see you then.
