2.6 PostgreSQL as the Database Server

Since standard Rails applications require a database, we need to set one up. We’ll use PostgreSQL in this course since it has many features and performance perks. It’s a de facto standard in the Ruby community.

In this lesson you’ll learn how to install the latest version of PostgreSQL in Ubuntu. Also, you’ll learn how to create a new user for your database. Later in the course we’ll integrate everything together in order to have a fully working application in a production-like environment. That means creating and migrating a database to support our app.
