1.1 Introduction

Hi, my name is Jeremy McPeak, and I invite you to spend some time with me learning about Express. In about an hour and a half, you'll learn just about everything you need to get started using Express in your Node applications.

1.1 Introduction

Node.js revolutionized the way that we write web applications in more ways than one. But perhaps the most subtle revolution is how we write Node applications because Node by itself gives us just a solid level platform for writing our applications. In fact, we're almost forced to rely upon frameworks in order to be productive. One of the oldest and most widely used frameworks is Express.js. It's an unopinionated framework that we can use to write any type of web application, be it a traditional web app or a RESTful API. Hi, my name is Jeremy McPeak, and I invite you to spend the next hour and a half with me so that you can learn just about everything you need to get started using Express. We'll start at the very beginning and install Express for a brand new project. You'll learn how to initialize an Express-powered application, as well as how to handle incoming requests. From there, you'll learn how to configure your application to serve static assets, like CSS, images, and JavaScript. You'll then learn about view engines and how you can use them to dynamically generate HTML. You'll learn how to process post requests, query parameters, and even create clean readable URLs. We'll end this course with a look at middleware, and more specifically how to write your own middleware so that you can add custom processing to your applications request pipeline. Now we have a lot of ground to cover so when you're ready, queue up the next video and we will get started.
