1.1 Introduction
[MUSIC] Hello, and welcome to this Tutsplus Coffee Break course on creating child themes in WordPress. If you've ever downloaded a theme from the theme directory or bought one somewhere, and wanted to edit it, you should always create a child theme to do this. And that's because any changes you make to the main fame will be lost when that theme is updated. So in this course I'll show you how to create a child theme. We will create a theme with the style sheet and an archive file that will override the archive file from the parent theme. And then I'll show you how to take a site using 2016 like this and use a child theme to make a tweak to the styling and also to add some text using another template file. So if you watch this course you will understand best practice when it comes to editing themes with a child theme in WordPress.
