WordCamp Europe 2013 Next Weekend!

WordCamps are always fun places to learn about WordPress, and next weekend is the very first WordCamp Europe, with an impressive line-up of speakers. If you don't already have a ticket, and you can be in the area on October 5-7th, make sure you grab one today!

What's a WordCamp?

WordCamps are conferences that are about everything WordPress. To quote the WordCamp Central website:

WordCamps are informal, community-organised events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other.

Sounds awesome, right? If you ever hear of one happening in your area, I strongly advise you to get along and meet other WordPress users and developers. It's always great fun to hang out with other WordPress people and geek out about our favourite publishing platform.

Will There Be One Near Me?

So far in 2013, there have been 50 WordCamps around the world, including in Israel, Canada, Japan, Romania, and here in Australia. But you know what? They're not done yet, there are another 16 WordCamps scheduled throughout the remainder of 2013!

You can see the complete list on the WordCamp Central Schedule, and if there's not one near you this year, there probably will be next year. In fact, as they're community organised, you could even start one yourself with other WordPress community members in your area!

WordCamp Europe 2013

The schedule for WordCamp Europe is amazing. Of particular interest to readers here on Wptuts+, as we tend to be focussed on WordPress development, are the "Build" and "Make" tracks. Covering topics like:

It's almost a shame to highlight only those four though, because the entire line up is very impressive, and I'm not sure how I'm going to choose which ones to attend!

Contributor Day

The third day of WordCamp Europe will be a contributor day dedicated to contributing to the WordPress project itself. This will include contributing in a variety of ways, from code, to documentation, to support, and any of the other myriad ways people already contribute to WordPress. If contributing is something you're interested in doing, but have never taken the plunge and gotten involved, this is a great opportunity to jump in and learn from those who already have.

Come Say "Hi" Next Weekend

If you're coming along to WordCamp Europe, I'll be there, and I'd love you to come and say hi. If you're quick, I'll even have a handful of Envato and Microlancer t-shirts to give away.

Whether you're coming to WordCamp Europe or not, I'd love you to leave a comment below telling me which of the topics in the schedule you'd like to see us cover more of here on WPtuts+.

Don't forget to grab yourself a ticket!
